My Story

My name is Christopher Grafos, Ph.D., and I am the founder of BridgesEDU.​

In 2016, I completed my Ph.D. at York University in the Department of History. With a doctorate and promising academic opportunities, I found myself at a crossroads. I could either continue in academia or follow another road; dedicating myself to helping students reach their potential. To me, it was a no brainer. At that point, I had helped enough students with their academic transition strategies to know that few experiences rival the joys of supporting students to reach and surpass their academic goals. I sincerely believe that the right academic guidance can be transformative for students and witnessing these transformations continues to be the most inspiring and rewarding experience of my career. This is the sentiment that guides BridgesEDU.​

The methods and skills that I teach are derived from my experiences as an undergraduate course director at the fourth-year level and teaching assistant at the first- and second-year level. In both cases, I observed that students had very common struggles related to their preparation for university-level work. For example, while many students are adept at describing academic materials, their analytical tools, which professors reward, tend to be less developed. This is only one of many competencies that students grapple with consistently.​

In the past, I have served on the MA admissions committee in the Department of History at York University. I was also a nominee for the Ian Greene Award for Teaching Excellence. My academic work has received generous funding from competitive scholarship contests. Most notably, I have been a recipient of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship; the Avie Bennett Historica Dominion Institute Dissertation Scholarship in Canadian History at York University; and the Hellenic Heritage Foundation Graduate Fellowship in Modern Greek History.​

I have also been fortunate to present aspects of my work in public and academic presentations at Toronto City Hall; Toronto Public Libraries (hosted by Heritage Toronto and ActiveHistory.ca); the Canadian Historical Association; the Canadian Institute in Greece (Athens), and at various universities including New York University, Indiana University, Georgia State University, and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.​
